Shirley Jane Grams

July 10, 1923 — August 20, 2018

Shirley Jane Grams (Bowen) was born in Denver Colorado in 1923. She slipped away to Eternity on August 20th. She is survived by her daughter Sherri Shannon (Tom), grandchildren, Kelly Zellen (Rick) and Kevin Sanders, and three great grandchildren, Evan, Kara, and Lexi Zellen. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Caregiver and dear friend Sarah Parker.

Shirley was born and raised in Denver. She graduated in 1941 from St. Francis DeSales High School.

With the start of WWII Shirley worked at Remington Arms War Plant at the Denver Federal Center as a munitions inspector. In 1953 she started work for the Air Force at the Air Reserve Personnel Center and later moved to the Air Force Finance Center out at Lowry AFB. She retired in 1983 as a retired pay technician.

In 1956 Shirley met Donald Grams and they married in 1957. They were married for over 60 years before Don's passing in July of 2017.

Shirley loved having family get togethers. Being the youngest of 7 these family gatherings were always full of laughter, good food and love. Shirley had a very quick wit and a great laugh that will be greatly missed.

Shirley and Don loved retirement. They would travel around the US in their RV, many times taking their grandkids with them. Canada, New England, the Oregon Coast, and Washington DC were among just a few of their destinations. They also loved to cruise. They went on cruises to the Caribbean, Mexico and visited countries along the English Channel. One of their favorite trips was a trip to Ireland where they were able to tour around the country for almost two weeks.

While Don did the gardening, Shirley did the preserving. Annually they would can tomatoes, pickles, and other items from Don's garden. Shirley would also make her famous chili sauce which was popular with family and friends. She was a great cook. Her recipe for homemade spaghetti sauce was a favorite and thankfully was passed down to her daughter and grandchildren.

Her services will be on Wednesday August 29th at 10:00am at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 2250 S. Harrison St., Denver, with burial at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at 1:30pm. A reception at Tom and Sherri's house will follow.
