Shirley Kendig

November 21, 1931 — November 23, 2016

Shirley Marie Kendig, age 85, died in her home in Aurora on November 23, 2016 as the result of a long term battle with Lupus. She was surrounded by her three children and their spouses. Shirley was born in Fairbury, Nebraska to Alvin W. Snyder and Wilma Kelley on November 21, 1931. She was raised on a family farm in Fairbury, Nebraska with her late older sister Patricia Corney and her younger brother Jerry Snyder who maintains his law practice in Lincoln. She attended Fairbury Junior College as an Education major and later married Theodore H. Kendig and had three children: Rebecca L. Beach, Jeffrey T. Kendig and Kim L. Racine. Shirley was very dedicated to providing for her children and helping to put the three children through college. Always a family person, she now has thirteen grandchildren (one deceased) and nine great-grandchildren who will miss her greatly. A long time love of playing bridge began with her sister-in-law, Ruthann Chrinside Snyder, and friends in Lincoln which continued when she moved to Denver. With help from her friends, she threw a lavish bridge party with her closest friends in the last month of her life. Travel opportunities while an employee at Frontier Airlines provided a source of continual adventure. Expanding on her love for travel, she joined Ports of Call and visited several countries with her travel buddies. One of her later adventures was hiking in the Alps in Switzerland. Approaching midlife, Shirley with her usual enthusiasm began another career – real estate. With professionalism she showed, negotiated and contracted on homes developing a highly satisfied customer base. Coming from an artistic family, Shirley studied to a high professional level with her instructor Evelyn Martinez in the early 1980's who helped her develop her real talent in pastels and oils. Her paintings in a realism style were shown in regional shows. She passed on her priceless art pieces as treasures to her children and grandchildren. Her funeral will be held on December 3, 2016 at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home at 5303 E County Line, Centennial, CO. A private family viewing will commence at 9:30 AM, Public Visitation at 10 AM, Memorial Services at 11:00 AM followed by a Reception at 12 – 1:30 PM. Her friends and family are invited to join in celebrating a life well lived.
