Shirley Packard

October 25, 1924 — April 22, 2022

Shirley Helen Warren Packard, age 97, passed away peacefully in her home in Littleton, CO on April 22, 2022, with her family present.

Shirley was born in Rock Springs, Wy on October 25, 1924, to Collins Otto and Vivian Anna Warren. After the death of her mother in 1929, Shirley, and her younger brother Charles Warren (1926-2013) moved to in Pocatello, ID, to live with their grandparents, Helen and Edwin Marcoe. While in school at Pocatello High, she met Frank Lewis Packard. Frank and Shirley married on May 30, 1943. They shared an uncommon love and respect throughout their more than 53-year marriage.

Shortly after they were married, Frank enlisted in the Army Air Corp, and they spent the next several years moving from airfield to airfield while Frank learned to fly B17s and B29s. Shirley later recounted many happy memories during this time. When Frank was discharged from the Army, they returned to Pocatello, ID.

In 1953, Frank and Shirley, now with four children, felt the need for a change of location. Writing down the names of potential destinations, they drew San Diego, CA out of a hat. Their fifth child arrived in 1958.

Helen and Edwin Marcoe came to live with the family in 1954, enabling Shirley to establish her career as an accomplished Executive Secretary. Through the years, Shirley worked at Convair and General Dynamics Astronautics in San Diego, and Xerox Corp in Rochester, NY, where the family lived from 1966 until 1969, when the family moved back to San Diego. Shirley then worked at Naval Electronics Laboratory Center, and later at Computer Sciences Corp. when they moved to Torrance, CA in 1972. Following Frank’s retirement from Hughes Aircraft, Frank and Shirley moved to Littleton, CO. They quickly assimilated into the Colorado lifestyle and made many lifelong friends in their new community of Governor’s Ranch. Frank and Shirley thoroughly enjoyed spending time with friends and family in their retirement.

Shirley lost Frank in 1996, her oldest son Michael Kent Packard (Catherine) in 2009, and her brother Charles Warren in 2013. Shirley is survived by her children Shirley Elaine Packard, Peggy Joyce Russell (Lawrence), William Elwood Packard (Elinor), and Tamara Packard Ashe (Thomas, 2018), all living in Colorado. Shirley is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and many dear friends in Littleton.

All were truly blessed to have had Shirley in their lives.

A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at the Governor’s Ranch Clubhouse on June 13, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
