Shirley Scheer, 40 year summer resident of Grand Lake, died on September 11 in her Littleton home after a three year battle against cancer. The Scheer residence is on the north shore of Grand Lake. She was born in Madison, Nebraska on May 18, 1928 and later moved with the family to Lincoln. She graduated from Concordia High School in Seward, Nebraska and attended Concordia College and the University of Nebraska. In 1948 she married Gordon Scheer and they have made their home in the Denver area ever since. They are members of Stillwater Community Chapel in Grand Lake. Shirley taught elementary grades or kindergarten in Lutheran elementary schools in Philadelphia, Port Huron and Denver. She was the church organist at Centennial Lutheran Church in Littleton. Throughout her life she maintained constant activity and leadership positions in various Lutheran church parishes. She and her husband were members of the Grand Lake Yacht Club since 1973 and one of the joys in her life was serving on the Yacht Club sailing committee in the 90's. She was an active volunteer in many causes serving as president at two different times of the Swedish Medical Center Auxiliary in Englewood and as a long time jewelry buyer for the Medical Center gift shop. She loved people and being with friends and family. Her sparkling personality made her an active partner in her husband's career. Survivors includer her husband Gordon and her daughter Christine Edwards (Pat) of West Bountiful, Utah; her son Gary Scheer (Laurie) of Kigali, Rwanda, and son Scott Scheer (Jill) of Littleton along with six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 E. County Line Rd., Centennial, on Friday at 10:00 AM.
