Shirley May Schmitz

Shirley May Schmitz, 80, of Denver, Colorado passed away on July 23, 2011.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2011 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80014. Recitation of the Rosary to follow at 7:00 pm.

Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 10:00 am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 13120 East Kentucky Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80012. Reception to follow at church.

Interment will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, July 28, 2011 at St. Simeon Cemetery, 22001 East State Highway 30, Aurora, Colorado 80018.

Shirley was born on 1/2/31 in Kansas City, MO to James and Ethel Weaver. She was the oldest with 3 younger brothers (Don, Dean and Dwayne). The family moved to eastern Colorado and lived in Wray, Shirley went to school and graduated from Wray High School. She then met Donald Schmitz at a dance in Hale, CO, they were married on June 25, 1949 in Wray, CO and, lived in Topeka KS for a short time before moving to Denver. She was a phone operator for Mountain Bell and Donald was a printer for Apex Box and Die. They had 3 children, Deborah, Caroline and Donald William Jr. After they retired mom and dad moved up to Salida, CO to be in the mountains that she loved so much. They would go on rides all over the mountains exploring every road there was. Her hobbies were: sewing, knitting, rock hunting, fishing, and camping, cooking, gardening. She loved going up to Black Hawk and play the penny machines and eat at the buffets.
Her grandchildren are: Luann, Trina, Laura, Jason, Gregg, Jeff, Ben, Jackie
Great grandchildren are: Brendan, Alyssa, Madison, Mikayla, Mallory, David, Myah, Hollie, Hayley, Hilary
Her family meant the world to her.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, husband Donald, brothers Dean and Don.
She was loved by many nieces, nephews and sister in-laws.
