Shirley was born on July 15, 1933, in Denver, Colorado. She was the youngest of three children born to William and Hazel Keary.
She died on December 22, 2019, after battling breast cancer for the second time.
Shirley graduated from West High School and attended secretarial school at Barnes Business College in Denver.
She met her husband, Dallas Vowell, at a church picnic with the Church of Christ while he was stationed at Lowery Air Force Base. They were married on April 16,1955, in a chapel on the base.
She worked at Shell Oil Company for many years and helped put Dallas through college to be an electrical engineer. He worked for Lockheed Martin on the Titan Missile Program.
Shirley worked for various other companies, including Mountain Bell, and as an accountant with Fish and Wildlife Resources, a branch of the Federal Government.
Shirley had what she called her âmiracle childâ, as she had to be bedridden nine months to give birth. Michelle Renee Vowell was born April 7th.
She was involved with the Martin Marietta Treasure Hunt Club where Dallas worked. The Club and some of their family enjoyed snowmobiling in winter and water skiing in summer.
Shirley and her husband became very much involved with a church that was associated with a school their daughter attended. She became summer and winter camp counselor as well as a Brownie Troop Leader.
She loved Christmas time with all the lights and the family gatherings with her sister and their families.
Shirley had a very competitive nature with some sports and games and she won 2nd place with the Tango at the Brown Palace Ballroom Competition. She also had a funny and good sense of humor.
Celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, their daughter and son-in-law took them to Hawaii on a cruise ship and a week in Maui which they treasured.
Because they were in Florida so much, due to Dallas being at NASA, it became like a second home. They went to Disney World many times and this was a very special place to them.
Shirley and Dallas celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last year. Dallas passed away in June that year. Their strength in their love and commitment they shared with each other, their daughter, family and other people is an example of how they lived their lives. Now they are back together ""forever"", as that was their saying to each other.
Shirley is well loved by her family, friends and anyone who got to know her including the caregivers at Sunrise at Pinehurst.
Everyone will love and miss you, but you will be in our hearts forever.
Love you always.
