Shogi Sakurada

September 4, 1918 — June 30, 2011

Shogi was born Sept.4, 1918 in Brush, CO. His family moved to Scottsbluff, NB when he was a toddler. He graduated from Scottsbluff HS in 1939. He was drafted in April, 1941 and served 4 years with the 100th Battalion in WWII. After the war he returned to farming and married Fusaye Phyllis Nukaya on Sept. 20, 1949. They had 3 children-Samuel, Matthew and Miriam. His wife of 51 years passed away in 2001. In Dec., 1964 he moved his family to Ft. Collins, Co. He worked as a lab technician at CSU for 18 years before retiring. He moved to Lakewood, CO and lived with his daughter and her family for 8 1/2 years. In Oct, 2010 he moved into Heritage Club of Lakewood, an assisted living facility until he passed away on June 30, 2011. He was a member of St Joseph Episcopal Church. Memorial gifts can be made to St Joseph Episcopal Church, Lakewood, St. Paul's Episcopal Church-Ft. Collins, Colorado Haiti Project or Lutheran Collier Hospice. Memorial Service, Saturday, July 16, at 11:00am, Saint Joseph Episcopal Church, 11202 West Jewell Avenue, Lakewood. Committal, Monday, July 18, at 9:30am, Fort Logan National Cemetery.
