SMSgt John B. Flowers, age 86 died peacefully with family in the Denver Hospice on November 28, 2023. John moved from Keokuk, Iowa when he was 4 years old with his parents and 6 brothers and sisters. He attended Emmaus Lutheran Church and was a graduate of North Denver High School. He married Wilfreda Coe in 1963 and produced three daughters, Pamela, Cathy, and Cindy. After they divorced, John met and married Barb Cunningham. John has 8 grandchildren, Nancy, Aaron, Ryan, Ashley, and Zack, Chad, Clint and Timber and one great-grandchild, Elyria
John joined the Colorado Air National Guard and served one tour of duty in Viet Nam in 1967-1968. He retired from the guard after serving for 32 years. John loved to play soft ball and was a pitcher for the COANG for many seasons. His call sign was “Viper”. John was an avid bowler for many years and convinced all of his daughters to join him. John loved to take landscape photographs of the Rocky Mountains and had built a dark room in his basement in Arvada. He also loved to attend koi shows all over the US with Barb, where he met many of their “fishy” friends.
John is survived by his wife, three daughters, one brother, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at Horan & McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, Colorado 80014, on Saturday, December 16th at 11:00 AM. Reception immediately following celebration.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate to either the Denver Hospice or Dumb Friends League of Denver.
