Mrs. Bollers was born June 28, 1935 to Thomas Frederick and Sarah Thelma (Jeffries) Harvey in Philadelphia, PA.
She married Hugh James Bollers on May 3, 1958. This union produced three sons: Brandt, Bart and Bennett. Her strong love for nature and animals created a strong bond between her and her boys.
Teaching was one of her greatest achievements. The gift she passed on to her studentsâvalues, knowledge and caringâ earned he the Education and Civic Achievement Award from the Colorado Teachers Association. Former students continued their relationship, making many visits to her home in Merino.
She retired in 1994 and pursued her life-long dream of owing a farm, referring to her place as âLittle House on The Prairie.â Attending her grandchildrenâs school and sporting events were most important in her life, as well as cheering the Broncos on.
Gardening and flower gardens were a highlight to her life, as well as caring for her mother.
Her travels throughout the world, which took her to places including China, Africa, Egypt and Australia, were enjoyed with her friends, and were relived many times over
the last few years with her caregivers.
A trip to Nepal was her life-long dream, but it had to be canceled after she was diagnosed with Lou Gehrigâs disease.
Achievements came easily to Sandy: Mayor of Hudson, CO; member of the National Western Stock Show Association; president of Colorado Women in Municipal Government; a captain in the Civil Air Patrol; a member of Phi Delta Kappa; a Bachelor of Arts from MacMurray College with an Administrative Certificate from CU-Boulder; a member of Adams County School District #14.
International reading associations and conferences continued to be an important part of her life after retirement.
The opportunity to receive her private pilotâs license and scuba diving certification brought her a great deal of satisfaction. Playing the role of Kate in the âSeekerâ, a play written by Nell Brown Propst, gave her the chance to use her drama training.
She is survived by her sons Brandt Bollers and wife Valerie, of Oregon, Bart Bollers and wife Kathy, of Merino, and Bennett Bollers, of Hudson; grandchildren Kyle and Tanner Bollers and Shawn, Cameron and Stacy Dolan; special friends Nell Brown Propst, Gabi Stehle and children Stephanie and Michael, Janice Tonz and Lori Shino.
