Sonja Edith Jeffries passed away July 25, 2022 in Aurora, Colorado, at the age of 67. She was born in Ulm, Germany and lived in many places over the course of her life, including Australia, Hawaii, North Dakota, New Mexico, and Washington state before coming to live at last in Colorado. She achieved her Master's Degree in Education in 1995 from City University in Bellevue, Washington, and had an impactful career as first an elementary school teacher and then a high school teacher working with at-risk youth until illness brought about her early retirement.
Sonja was a thoughtful, compassionate, determined woman with a candid manner and a wry, easy sense of humor. She was a Christian who embodied the virtues of her faith in spirit and in practice. She loved teaching and growing along with her students, reading, writing, roses, baking, dogs, long walks, good company, and enjoying the simple pleasures in life. Hers was at times an exceptionally difficult life, but she lived it with strength, courage, and love. She hoped every day to find opportunities to improve her life and the lives of those around her. She was a supportive, generous, and nurturing sister, wife, and mother who gave everything that she had to give to her family. She will be deeply and profoundly missed.
Survivors include her daughter Melanie Zunic and son-in-law Tyler Magnuson; brother John Schick and his wife Julie Bond-Schick; brother Michael Baccetti and his wife Theresa McElroy-Baccetti; brother Peter Baccetti and his wife Karen Baccetti. Sonja was preceded in death by her husband Michael L Jeffries, her father John Schick, her mother Edith Lafavor, and her step-father Robert Baccetti.
A private funeral service will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver. Sonja will be laid to rest there with her husband, Michael L Jeffries.
