Stephen Earl Bertels

Stephen Earl Bertels, 71, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2019.

Stephen E. Bertels was born on July 10, 1948 in Denver, Colorado to Viola Grace and Earl W. Bertels. Stephen was a proud Colorado Native.

Stephen enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1967 where he fought in the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart Medal. He also was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnamese Service Medal (with three stars), Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and the Combat Ribbon. After his discharge form the Marines Corps Stephen earned his diploma from Aurora Public Schools.

Stephen E. Bertels was preceded in death by his parents, Viola Grace and Earl Bertels.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Cathy Bertels; sister, Sandra; son, Adam Bertels; daughter, Stephanie; stepchildren, Jason Woods (Aisha), Catrina Woods, and Bruce McQueen; his best buddy, Alonzo; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.

A service is to be held at Horan & McConaty, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado at 11AM on Friday, August 16, 2019. Burial will follow at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
