Stephen Vincent Cassetta was fierce in the love he bestowed upon his family and friends and fierce in his struggles. His outsized heart characterized his journey through life, which ended too soon late on the evening of Wednesday, June 13, 2018 to the heartbreak of his family.
Born August 24, 1979, Steve joined the Cassetta family as a much-loved son and brother whose youth in Pennsylvania and Colorado was filled with footy pajamas, Saturday cartoons, vacation fireflies, matching outfits for Christmas pictures and birthday bear cakes. He was his siblings' protector, brave and fearless on the outside with a big, sensitive heart.
As a boy, he formed his lifelong affinity for gardens and growing things, animals and the outdoors as a boy. His green thumb would produce everything from hydroponic crops to his most recent creation, a giant plot with over 30 different organic species and hand built below-ground irrigation.
Though an upright and enthusiastic Cub Scout he always had a glimmer in his eye and his mind on the horizon looking for the next adventure. That affinity for growth and new experiences led Steve out into the world to live in Cape Cod, Florida and back to his roots in Denver. His travels fed his curiosity and were punctuated by epic family events filled with laughter and riotous cousin encounters from NYC to DC and to Chicago.
Steve and Justin, Steve's lifelong friend, both saw people going through their whole lives without really living them. They were determined not to follow that path. True to his convictions, Steve kept persevering and reinventing himself. Through a maze of setbacks, he prevailed and served as a leader and friend for others.
Those who love him know he is now at peace. He will be deeply and constantly missed.
He is survived by his parents Joyce Young and Steve Cassetta, his sister Kerry Cassetta and brother Thomas Cassetta as well as beloved aunts Janet, Louise, and Mary Kenny, uncles Bob and Bill Kenny, Uncle Steve and Aunt Karen Reid, Aunt Jan and Uncle Jim Cassetta as well as many beloved cousins: Steve and Dan Reid, Ed and Brooke, Christine Kenny, Eddy and Janet Viveiros, Liz and Matt Wempe, Maggie, Bill, Bob and Kaylin Kenny as well as our dear NY Cassetta cousins.
