Stephen Philip Chamberlain

April 26, 1959 — September 8, 2019

Stephen Philip Chamberlain of Littleton, CO, (age 60) peacefully continued on his journey to the other side of the veil on September 8, 2019, surrounded by his loving wife Wendi, his three sons Spencer, Harrison and Calvin, and his brother Bill, after exhausting his relentless determination to give cancer a fierce battle.

Steve is reunited in heaven with his mother, Julie Chamberlain, and his grandparents. In addition to his wife and sons, Steve is survived by his father W. James Chamberlain (Gilberte); sister Terri Feinberg (Steven); brother William Chamberlain (Nicole); nephews and nieces: Samantha Feinberg (Patrick Cook-Deegan), Zach Feinberg, Alexandra Chamberlain; uncles and aunts: Suzanne DeVries Thompson (Michael), Marian Bouwer (John), Milo DeVries (Abby), Philip Chamberlain (Gretchen); cousins: Elizabeth Chamberlain, Thomas Chamberlain (Laurie), Thomas Bouwer, Kathryn Burke (Kevin), Gretchen Bouwer (Ryan Fogg), David DeVries (Mary), Abby Whiteford (James), Cindy Wolff (David), and many loving friends who walked this journey with him.

Born in 1959 in East Grand Rapids, Michigan, Steve played tight end on the EGR football team when they won the Class B State Football Championship in 1976. An EGRHS Class of 1977 graduate, Steve attended Western State Colorado University and The University of Texas at Austin where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Petroleum Land Management in 1982. After working as an oil and gas Land Man in Austin for Mobile Oil, Steve relocated to Denver where he earned his Master of Science (Mineral Economics) from Colorado School of Mines in 1992. At that time, he started his own gas & oil company, Energy Investments, Inc. (EII), which he worked at passionately until the end.

Steve lived life on his own terms. He was the embodiment of ‘The Chambo Factor,’ a term coined for his Teflon-like ability to dodge a vast amount of hazards in his life filled with on-the-edge adventures, and his unique luck for coming out better after the experience. This was a phenomenon he later described as simply ‘the Grace of God.’

For 60 years, his summers were spent at Point Nipigon Resort Club on the Straits of Mackinac where Steve was a fourth generation ‘Nipigoner.’ There he developed his love of sailing, jet skiing, scuba diving and cruising the Great Lakes. Many Nipigoners learned boating skills from Steve including his passengers whom he reminded often, “a clean boat is a happy boat.”

An adventure seeker extraordinaire, his enthusiasm and infectious spirit provided him with many co-conspirators who obeyed his shouts, “Come on, let’s go!” Steve traveled extensively with his family. He loved black diamond runs in the Rockies, sailing the Chicago to Mackinaw and Huron races, and chasing freighters on the Straits on his speed boat. He was happiest while spending time with his family, especially if it was on his boat or in deep powder. Second only to love for his wife and sons was his love of football, particularly while coaching his boys and cheering on his beloved Broncos and Michigan Wolverines.

He was a generous man who was always there for others whether helping friends and loved ones, serving the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints community, or fundraising for his various projects and charities.
