Steven Michael Barrett, age 69, of Centennial, CO passed away peacefully on New Year’s Day.
January 1, 2023. His beloved wife of 45 years, Carolyn Barrett (Holmberg), was by his side.
Steve was a devoted husband, engaged father, doting grandfather, extraordinarily successful business owner, avid golfer, and world traveler with an adventurous spirit. He was a family man through and through, and the best golfing buddy you could ever ask for. Steve considered the mountains of Colorado his own little slice of heaven. He enjoyed riding his bike, walking the beach, boating, snow skiing, snowmobiling, watching and attending multiple sports, and joking with friends. He was an affable person who loved great conversation with anyone and, at times, was the life of the party. He could disarm anyone with a smile, sense of humor, and lighten the mood with his strategic and tactful decision-making.
Steve was a product of two worlds, born and raised in Easton, Massachusetts, but a Coloradoan for the last 45 years. On December 20, 1953, in North Easton he was born into the family of James and Gloria Barrett, and was the second oldest of six siblings. He attended Oliver Ames High School where he excelled both academically and athletically, graduating in 1972 as class Vice President. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years, stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
He married the love of his life, Carolyn Holmberg in June 1977. After their wedding, they followed their dreams and headed west, with no jobs, and only a tent packed in the car. They fell in love with the West and knew it was the place for them to start their life together and raise a family.
In 1983 Steve founded and grew his successful business of 25 years, Commercial Wallcovering Source, based on exceptional customer service, attention to detail, and through the friendships he built. Steve’s positive attitude, common sense approach, competitive nature, and financial outlook allowed him to thrive in the business world. The winter months of his retirement years were spent in Mazatlán, Mexico enjoying the warm sun, the beach, pool, sunsets, fishing, and daily rounds of golf. He has an extended family of friends there, who brought so much joy over the last 15 years. He was a member of the Valley Country Club for 36 years, where he loved playing golf with his wife, children, grandchildren, and many friends. Most of all, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow and play, loved attending their sporting events, while encouraging their accomplishments.
Steve leaves behind a very loving and large extended family that will dearly miss him. His wife, Carolyn, survives him and their three children Kimberly Leier (husband Joseph), James Barrett (wife Emily), and Lauren Barrett. He was so proud of his four grandchildren, Owen and Grant Leier, Dean and Emma Barrett which he will miss watching grow up and thrive in life. Also, he leaves behind siblings Diane (Barrett) McKinnon, Kevin Barrett, Bob Barrett, Patty (Barrett) Dorsey, and numerous nieces and nephews (20+ on each side.) His parents James and Gloria Barrett, and brother David Barrett preceded him in death.
Please join us to celebrate his life well lived at 10:00 a.m. on January 23, 2023 at the Horan & McConaty Cremation Garden, 5303 E. County Line Rd., Centennial, CO 80122.
