Steven Witt

Steven Witt sadly passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 62 years old. Steven is survived by his two children, the lights of his life, Belle and Jack; their mother, Heidi; his siblings, Julie, JR, and Jeff; and his nephew and nieces, Brendan, Emily, Madeleine and Atlee. The youngest son of Joseph Atlee Witt and Eleanor Bailey Witt, Steven was born in Boston and raised in California and Colorado. He graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 1975 and Stanford University in 1980, with a Bachelor of Arts in Human and Marine Biology. He went on to work as a Marketing, Branding and Media advisor (or, as he would say, a "brand savant"), founding the Science Communicators Workshop and the Center for Science Information . He wrote several QuickBooks, BriefBooks, and other published works. Steven was recruited by the founder of the UK-based The Body Shop and led its expansion and media operations for 13 Western States. His most notable success was the start-up Silicon Valley investment firm, Firsthand Funds. He was responsible for renaming, rebranding and marketing, and was instrumental in its growth to a billion dollar technology fund.

Steven was creative, funny and fun-loving and most of all, a gifted story teller. To know him was to never want for laughter. Steve's infectious sense of humor and ebullient personality lit up a room as soon as he walked in. Affectionately known as the "Pleasure King," the food tasted better, the wine was sweeter, and the world was brighter when you were with Steven. He had an adventurous spirit which led him to scuba dive with Great white sharks at the Farallon Islands and sleep with herds of elephants in sub-Saharan Africa. Steven also enjoyed the simple things – spending time at the beach, sitting on his favorite bench overlooking the ocean, writing, reading and, most of all, he truly treasured his children. Steven was a free-spirited, tender-hearted man who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

There will be a memorial service at Horan & McConaty Mortuary at County Line Road in Centennial, CO on Saturday, July 18 ^th at 10 AM MST.
