Steven L. Gritz was born to Kim and Katie Gritz on November 24, 1985. He left us behind on August 12, 2024.
Steven's passion in life started when his dad gave him his first skateboard at 4 years old, and it remained an integral part of his life until the day he died. He skated every park he could get to, and it even took him to Spain, which was one of the highlights of his life. He snowboarded as much as he could in the winter, he fished with his dad and helped him with maintenance at the family cabin in San Isabel, where he also shared many memories with his treasured Grammy Lu.
Steven was kind, funny, considerate and fiercely loyal to his friends. He always stepped up without hesitation if they needed help. He was accepting of all kinds of people. He was a nonviolent person except for one instance when he slugged someone in defense of his mom! He was a proud mama's boy. He loved his sister, Liz, and often spent quality time with her and her husband, Gregg, who he considered his own brother.
He volunteered for "Go Skate Day", where for several years he gifted kids with boards and equipment along with his time, teaching them the fundamentals of skateboarding. He was wonderful with kids and enjoyed sharing his love of the sport with them.
His skateboarding community brothers and sisters are too numerous to mention, but our family wants to thank them for the heartfelt and touching tributes that have been sent to us and posted online. We know you share our pain and will miss him deeply.
His immediate family that are devastated by his passing are his mom, Katie Gritz, Dad Kim (Karin) Gritz, sister Liz (Gregg) Archuleta, stepsisters Heather Stratton (Nick Keller), Alex (Ryan) Fields and their children Bromley, Callan, and Allegra.
His memory will live on in our hearts forever.
Roll in peace, Steven.
