Steven Douglas Herron

May 25, 1948 — September 14, 2006

Steven D. Herron, a loving family-man, mentor, and friend, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at the young age of 58. He died suddenly doing something that he loved doing '"" riding his motorcycle in the mountains. Steve was proceeded by his father, Col. Thomas J. Herron '"" his mother, Madelle Bourland, and his step-mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Herron. He was the husband for 28 years to Jean Herron. He was a loving father to three sons '"" Eric Herron of Austin TX, David Herron of Colorado Springs CO, and Daniel Herron of Denver CO. He was a playful grandfather to Aspen, Mackenzie, Austin, and Alexia. Steve was a man with strong beliefs. He believed in honor, integrity, and family. He had a great sense of humor that could brighten any situation. He gave all that he could to everybody he knew and aspired to provide for his family and friends. He took pride in his ability to mentor those that he could help and as a result he truly enriched many lives. Enjoyed skiing, scuba diving, riding his motorcycle, golfing, playing poker, and whitewater rafting. Activities in High School included football wrestling, swimming and band. Activities in College included fencing and skydiving. Attended Texas A&M University where he received both his bachelors degree and Masters Degree. After Graduation, he took a job working on an off-shore oil rig off the coast of Louisiana working for Humble Oil Company. (Now Exxon/ Mobil) He enjoyed experiencing the cajun way of life including shrimp boat fishing and crawfish boils. He later moved to Chicago, where we worked for the National Safety Council and met Jean. In 1987 he moved to Colorado. After climbing the corporate ladder for years, he decided to go it alone and dropped everything to work for himself. He was proud to be self-employed and put a great deal of effort into building a strong reputation for himself and his employees. Steve was proud of the work he did to make people's homes and places of work safer. He has saved many lives through his work. Quotes from his family: Eric Herron, Son "Dad was a very honorable man. Honor was important to him, but it was secondary to his love of his family and friends. Dad would always offer you the shirt from his back to make you warmer '"" even if he himself were cold. Dad was adventurous, as evidenced by his hobbies throughout his life; skydiving, scuba, motorcycles, skiing. white-water rafting, and most recently zip-lining. His zest for life, willingness to take chances, and fun-loving personality attracted many friends. As a father he was stern (like his father, the colonel was), but it was always backed by true love of his three sons. My father meant a lot of things to a lot of people. To me, he was a pillar of strength and wisdom, whom I am incredibly proud to call 'Dad'." David Herron, Son "My father is someone I will always look up to. He was such a wise and intelligent man. He always had great advice for me and was always there to lend a helping hand, even if it was just an ear to listen to my problems. He was full of an unstoppable passion for life and an energy to constantly explore new things. He always focused intently on the goals of his life and set out feverishly to achieve them. Because of this his accomplishments throughout life were extraordinary. He was kind to others, enjoyed good company and conversation, and was truly an man of integrity, loyalty, and love. These qualities are why he had so many diverse friends. He was well liked by almost anyone who spent any time around him. If friends were dollars, he would be a very rich man. But I believe we are the rich ones for having known him, and having him touch our lives the way he did." Dan Herron, Son "My father is my inspiration for all things. There was no one thing that he could not accomplish. He wanted to experience anything and everything in life. If he came across something that caught his interest he learned it and would soon after master it. It is that spirit and passion in him that he passed on to me and he has shown me that anything is possible. The footprints that he left on Earth are twice that of any man's. I dare not try to equal his accomplishments in life, I only hope to make him proud with what I do in my life. He can hold his head up high as he leaves this world and be proud of the mark he left on this world and all of us."
