Stuart Robert Sonne

Born in Kingston, New York.  Parents, Stuart Leroy Sonne and Elizabeth Langdon Sonne. Stuart lived in Poughkeepsie, New York and began college at Oswego, New York.

Stuart enrolled in the University of New Mexico. He worked summers at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs and the Western Skies Hotel in Albuquerque, NM.

Married 1961. Completed B.A. Degree from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado and enlisted in Army in 1962.

Stuart began federal government career as a resident counselor / teacher at one of the first U.S. Forest Service Job Corps Centers in Heber, Arizona in 1966. Stuart used veterans benefit to earn a masters degree from Northern Arizona University in 1973. He held administrative positions with U.S. federal agencies and retired from the Department of Labor after 32 years federal and military service.

Stuart participated in sports throughout his life. Retired in 1994, he was in senior baseball and competitive world class senior race walking. He was a race walk instructor,  sports fitness advisor, track and field official (Rocky Mountain West Conference / U.S. Air Force Academy).

Stuart volunteered as an Educational Surrogate Parent for children with disabilities.  Also a volunteer for YMCA of the Rockies, Active Older Adults fitness program.

He enjoyed music, art, and theatre performances, summer vacations in Vail, Colorado. He loved home, family, fresh air and blue skies of Colorado. 

Stuart departed Sunday, November 12, 2023.  Married to Alice (Alyce Marie Skinner). Daughter, Kristen and son, Mitchell.

In lieu of sending flowers, please plant a few tulips or other flowers in his memory.  Donate to your favorite charity, or  Denver Rescue Mission.   

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday November 29th, 9:30am at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home (Centennial (5303 E. County Line Road, Centennial 80122).

Committal Service will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 11:30am

Staging Area "C" maps will be provided at time of Funeral Service

Guest not attending the Committal Service will meet at Maggiano's at 11:30am
