Susan Louise Stewart Grubb, 83, of Littleton, passed away January 19, 2025, after a short hospital stay. Susan was born June 14, 1941 in Goodland, Kansas to George Neal “Tom” and Rosy May (Agnew) Stewart of Weskan, Kansas. She was a graduate of Weskan Consolidated Schools and Ft. Hays Kansas State University where she majored in Home Economics Education and minored in English and Physical Education. She also graduated from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy, Boulder, Colorado.
Raised on her grandparent’s homestead, Susan learned a strong work ethic. She was active in 4-H and earned the Who’s Who in 4-H Award for outstanding achievements.
She taught at the junior high level in Westminster and Longmont, Colorado. One evening she attended a church function and met Gayle Jackson. They enjoyed each other’s company, soon became smitten and married on June 7, 1964. Gayle returned to college and Susan was a Credentials Examiner in the Register’s Office at Colorado State University.
David Arthur joined the family in 1970, and Matthew Paul in 1976. Then she was happily trying to keep up with her two very active little boys. Susan became a Day Care Mom which allowed her to stay home with her boys, and she made lasting friendships with the parents and the children she watched.
After completing classes to become a neuromuscular massage therapist, she founded and operated the Center for Neuromuscular Massage Therapy with clinics in Littleton, Cherry Creek, and Lakewood. She also volunteered her time to improve the legal status of massage therapists in Colorado through legislation and was a leader in the Colorado Coalition of Massage Therapists. She was awarded the Colorado Meritorious Award and the National Meritorious Award by the American Massage Therapy Association for her work with legislation. Anyone who ever received a massage from Susan would agree, she had healing hands.
Ray Grubb square danced into her life and they discovered they had many shared interests. Romance blossomed and they were wed January 26, 1999. After Susan retired from her massage therapy business, she and Ray became snowbirds and wintered in south Texas and Arizona. They eventually bought a winter home in Mesa, Arizona. They played cards several times a week, went on outings and made many close friends. Since Ray shared Susan’s love of travel, they frequently traveled abroad and, in the US, many times with a group of friends. It would almost be easier to tell you where they didn’t go, than try to list all the places they did. They always returned to Littleton for the summers because family drew them back home.
Family and traditions were a priority for Susan. She loved her family deeply and took great pride in them. She was happiest and most content when surrounded by her family. Grammy was one of her favorite names and she cherished making memories with her grand girls. She enjoyed taking them to the fair, vacations at the beach, baking cookies, and attending their events. Yes, Grammy and her grands were known to ride carnival rides at the fair…until they shut the carnival down for the night.
Susan had many talents and if she decided to do something, she did it! She wrote and published a book, “The Woman from Short Grass Country,” about her Grandma Agnew’s memories. It is a wonderful legacy. She was such a great role model, amazing business woman, truly cared deeply for those around her, fought many battles, and was most tenacious. She diligently used her skills to help all those around her. Her smile was always kind and reassuring. She will be deeply missed.
Susan is survived by her children: David (Kelly) Jackson of Littleton, Colorado, Matthew (Michelle) Jackson of Littleton, Colorado, five granddaughters: Ella, Emma, Emily, Vayda, and Sydney, all of Littleton, Colorado, step-children: Caroline Grubb of Texas, Chris (Kathy) Grubb of Ft.
