Susan Rae Young Hudiburg passed away peacefully on May 20th, 2024. She is survived by her siblings, Clifford, Margaret (Orlando), Paul, Karl, Janice (Whatcott) and preceded by her sister Marilyn. Susan is also survived by her daughters Marilyn, Pamela (Smith) and Pamela’s family; husband Peter and children Tristan, Kaiman, and McKinley.
Susan was born April 29, 1948 to Clifford E. Jr. and Margaret Young in American Fork, Utah. She was the third of seven children and affectionately called Sue. Susan loved her home in American Fork and talked often of family trips up American Fork Canyon to her Grandpa Young’s cabin as well as trips to her Grandpa Bennion’s cabin on Coeur d’Alene Lake in Idaho. As a young girl she traveled up to Salt Lake City for piano lessons and learned to play the flute, giving way to a lifetime love of music and the performing arts. Susan was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When she was in high school, her family moved to Denver, Colorado, where she attended East High School and was on the Pom’s team. After high school she attended Ricks College, now known as BYU-Idaho, and had the opportunity to travel. Her travels involved an LDS Church History and US History trip as well as travels around Europe with her sister, Margaret.
Susan married John Craig Hudiburg on August 16th 1978 in the Salt Lake City Temple but later separated in 1992. Susan worked hard as an early childhood educator, going back to school to get her certificates in preschool education. In November of 2005, she welcomed her son in law, Peter, into her family. Susan doted upon her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them, especially accompanying them as they went on family outings like fishing, sledding, swimming and going up to the mountains. As Susan’s health changed, she cherished visits with her grandkids and most especially her phone calls with them. Her grandkids lovingly called her Grandma Susan. Her daughter, Marilyn, was particularly helpful and visited her often in her declining years.
A memorial service in honor of Susan’s life will be held June 22, 2024 at 10:00AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of latter Saints on 740 Hudson St. Denver, CO. All are welcomed to attend.
