Susan G. Reindl

January 12, 1944 — March 16, 2011

Susan Gail was born on January 12, 1944 in Wild Rose, Wisconsin to Joyce and Harold Bartel. She grew up in Wautoma, Wisconsin and was the youngest of three. Her bother, Dee, was the oldest and Janet (Wade), the middle child. At age 17, Sue lost her mother Joyce. Her beloved Aunt Lorena helped her a lot through the years. In 1962, Sue graduated as Valedictorian from Wautoma High School. Sue attended UW-Oshkosh and graduated in 1966 with a B.S. in Medical Technology. She moved to Milwaukee and worked at Columbia Hospital for nine years until the end of 1974. In March of 1971, Sue met Bob for the first time while attending a ski club meeting in Milwaukee. The two became closer while on a club ski trip to Aspen, CO and were engaged by that December. On April 22, 1972 Bob and Sue were married at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Wisconsin. Around the summer of 1973, the couple moved to Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, where they bought their first house. After a second ski trip to Aspen and a camping trip to Wyoming and Colorado, Bob and Sue decided to move to Colorado. In January of 1975, they rented a U-haul and made the drive across the Plains and to the Rockies. Bob and Sue first rented and later bought a home in the Applewood district of Golden. After being homesick for a time, Sue settled into her job at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, where she worked for about 18 years. In 1978, Bob and Sue built a house in the foothills (Conifer) outside of Denver and made a home for themselves and their new Springer Spaniel, Brandy. Sue was especially fond of ""the Brandy Dog"", who would join them on their camping adventures, long walks through the pines and aspens in Conifer, and ski trips. Sue commuted from Conifer to Denver in her VW Rabbit for work and never missed a day. Just before her first boy, Jeff, was born, Bob and Sue moved back to the Denver area making Sue's drive to work much more manageable. At age 38, Jeff was born only months after Bob and Sue moved into their Ithaca Street residence in extreme southwest Denver. A little over 2 years later she had her second son, Greg. Bob and Sue remodeled their second home several times during the next few years. Countless days were spent by Sue and family tending her garden and playing with Brandy in the backyard. By 1991, Sue and family decided to move on and build a new home nearby in the Green Mountain area of Lakewood. In 1992, two small kittens, Asher and Rocky, came into the life of Sue and family. She cared for and nurtured Rocky and Asher for nearly 18 years. In 1993, Bob and Sue moved the family to the western slope town of Montrose. The move didn't feel right so just over a year later the family moved back to the Denver area. Late in 1995, Bob and Sue had completed building a new family home just about a mile away from the home they built in 1991. While residing in this residence, Sue saw both of her boys graduate high school and college. Sue always enjoyed daily walks with Bob around the neighborhood. Sue and family remained in this home until her untimely death. Numerous trips to Wisconsin, Arizona and St. Louis (where both boys went to College) were made in the 1980s, 1990's and into the 21st century. Sue always loved driving with her family to visit relatives, seeing sights across the country, and watching the Colorado Rockies at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson. More recently, Bob and Sue made annual trips to South Padre Island in Texas. Their last trip was in January of this year. Unfortunately, colon cancer was detected in May of 2010. Sue had chemotherapy for 6 months and seemed to be improving. Sue and family enjoyed a nice Christmas in 2010 while she was feeling well after concluding her chemotherapy. By early February, after returning from South Padre Island, things took a turn for the worse. In early March the cancer had taken over. Her family was by her side near the end of her life. The last 3 days were hard and Sue died quietly, with her husband of almost 39 years by her side, on March 16, 2011 at 5:20am. Sue loved her animals (2 cats and a dog) and all the grasshoppers the kids collected. She always sowed and maintained beautiful indoor and outdoor gardens. Sue appreciated the beauty of nature. Most of all, she loved her family, all the sporting and school events her two boys took part in, and her wonderful friends. Family and friends were most important to her. Funeral service will be held on Monday March 21, 2011 at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd. at 5:00 PM.
