Susan Elaine Stewart

Susan Elaine Stewart, 67, of Arvada Colorado, was granted her angel wings on June 28th, 2015 at Denver Hospice Health Care. She was born to William ""Bert"" and Velma Newkirk on May 3rd, 1948 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She spent her summers as a child at the family cabin on Current River creating cherished memories which have been passed down generations. She attended Kenyon Elementary, P.B. Junior High and graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1966. She attended the University of Missouri from 1966-1968. In the fall of 1968 she transferred to the University of Colorado in Boulder. In January of 1970 she met her future husband, Jay Stewart, and they were married in Boulder on December 1, 1972. Susan started teaching in the fall of 1973 and spent the next thirty years as a teacher and counselor in Jefferson County at Pomona and Standley Lake High School. After retirement she worked for ten years as a consultant, however, enjoyed most of her time traveling with her husband, cooking, gardening, dinners with friends and family and most of all being a Grandma! Susan is survived by her husband Jay Stewart of Arvada, Colorado, brother Phillip Newkirk of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, daughter Meghan Gerlach of Arvada, Colorado, son Ben Stewart of Garden Grove, California, grandsons Lucas and Liam and granddaughters Emery and Sydney. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Horan & McConaty in Arvada, Colorado. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 1:30 PM at Arvada United Methodist, 6750 Carr Street, Arvada with the reception to follow at the Omni Interlocken Resort from 3:00-5:00 PM, 500 Interlocken Boulevard, Broomfield, Colorado.
