Sylvia Huhta

Sylvia Margrete Tikkanen Huhta was born in Calumet, Michigan, on October 1, 1911, to Charles and Mary Tikkanen. She had seven brothers and three sisters. Her younger brother, Harold, survives her. She attended Calumet High School and Suomi College in Hancock, MI. During the war years, she owned the only hat shop in Hancock. She married John M. Huhta in August, 1930. They had three children, John Michael, Jr. (deceased July, 1910); Judith Miles and Christine Mason. Other survivors are 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Sylvia retired from the U.S. Geological Survey in 1976, as head of the Denver Public Information Office. She was an avid hiker, world traveler, life-long learner, artist, and Bible student. She loved the Lord and served Him as a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Denver since 1956. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 11:30am at St. John's Lutheran Church located at 700 S. Franklin Street, Denver, CO 80209 (303)733-3777. Interment will take place Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 2:30pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery located at 3698 S. Sheridan Boulevard, Denver CO 80235 at Pavilion ""B"".
