Mrs. Sylvia âNellâ Troxell, 85, Englewood Colo, died peacefully at home of an unexpected illness on Tuesday October 10th surrounded by family. Born in Altoona to Hope and Arthur Conrad Nier, Nell was valedictorian of both high school and the Altoona School of Nursing (49-52). She met her husband, Robert Jay Troxell âBobâ (1931-2014), during her residency and they embarked on their twenty-two-year journey with the Air Force shortly after marriage. They arrived in Colorado in 1977 and found a home. Nell practiced as a nurse for several years including the American Red Cross, and volunteered often including President of the Gourmet Club at Wright Patterson AFB; Served on many Officerâs Wives Club committees, often as Chairman; Denver Botanical Gardens Library (26 years); The Homesteader Womenâs Club of Denver; President of the local Wildflower Club establishing a large garden at Cherry Creek Reservoir; Superintendent of Sunday School among other Church projects and prayer groups. A love of geology with Bob took them to fossil beds in Nevada and Colorado as long-time members of the Littleton Gem and Mineral Club; Member of the Mile-High Officers Club; and often hosting bridge or lunch - a very active member in her beautiful community until the day of her illness. She was an elegant, graceful, and extremely smart woman. Her interests were as vast as they were diverse. She did the Denver Post crossword every day to keep her mind sharp. An avid gardener with the greenest thumb; expert seamstress her entire life including designing and creating her wedding dress; well known for her gourmet cooking; loved the Colorado Symphony and the Colorado Ballet - also enjoyed Manheim Steamroller and Herb Albert; Denver Center Theater and Temple Buell were frequent stops as well. She and Bob both had lifetime passes to the Gem & Mineral Show. Surviving are her Daughter Suann Troxell-Ditzler, Grandson Robert Bonner (Julia), Brother Sylvanus Grant âBudâ Nier (Fran), many nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews and many great great nieces/nephews. Nell was a beloved friend and an especially loving wife, mother and grandmother and aunt who will be greatly missed by her family and all those touched by her presence. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Hope United Methodist Church, 5101 S. Dayton St., Greenwood Village, CO, 80111.
