Ted Wozny, age 71, died in his home on November 2, 2022. He was born on December 25, 1950 in Cheshire, England to Jan Szewko and Krystyna Szewko (Bednarczyk). On January 15, 1952, he and his parents traveled to America and settled in Bayonne, New Jersey. His biological father, unfortunately, met an untimely death. Eventually, his mother Krystyna remarried with Nicolas J. Wozny.
Ted graduated from Longmont High School in 1968. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy to pursue a path in electronics. Due to health reasons, the navy honorably discharged him and he returned to Colorado. He continued to pursue his passion for electronics and went to The Electronic Technical Institute in Denver obtaining his Electronics Technician diploma in 1970. In September of that year, he would meet and fall madly in love with the love of his life, Karol (Kapperman). After a blissful courtship, the two were wed on May 1, 1971.
Following their nuptials, the two embarked on what would be the start of a long, adventurous life together. First stop, New York! Here their oldest son, Timothy, was born in April of ‘74. Shortly thereafter, the pair realized that New York was not the place to raise a family, so they decided to return to Colorado, eventually settling in Firestone in time for the birth of their second child, a daughter Melissa, during the hot summer months of July ‘77.
Ted continued to have various employment opportunities and experiences but nothing quite was “the one”. So in September of ‘78 Ted moved the family to Tucson, AZ in hopes of finally securing a job at the prestigious IBM. Him and Karol were also expecting their third and final child, Tom due in December. His hard work and perseverance proved successful, and in December not only did he celebrate the birth of his youngest son he also accepted an offer to work for IBM.
For the next 16 years he would be employed by IBM. During this time, his family would move from Tucson, Arizona to Vail, Arizona where they would have a mini farm. Ted loved this new country life and enjoyed building his 3 acres from the ground up. Here they would raise a cow, have geese, dogs, cats, chickens, pigs, horses for Melissa and Karol and dirt bikes for the boys and an ATV for himself. However, as life would have it, another move would need to occur in order for Ted to continue with his employment with IBM. In January of ’89, they packed up the family and moved to Mantorville, Minnesota. Again, they lived on another 3-acre parcel. But due to the climate, no livestock was raised. Instead, he found new joy watching his sons play football, daughter play basketball and the youngest son dabble into wrestling. He also got to experience ice fishing for the first time! Always up for an adventure, he enjoyed each and every opportunity to try new things.
In 1994, his time with IBM came to an end. With strong family ties still in Colorado, they returned to find a residence in Thornton.
Needing a new career, Ted obtained his CDL which allowed him to pursue another lifelong dream of his: to become a cross country truck driver. Now that the kids were mostly all grown, he knew there was no time like the present. He worked for a few large cross country trucking firms. However, he soon realized that he missed his family and particularly did not like to be away from Karol. He eventually obtained employment driving a “mixer truck” as Ted liked to call it. This allowed him to stay local and be home every night to kiss his wife good night. It was here where he would complete his working days.
In retirement, Ted enjoyed going on cruises with Karol, visiting his sons, traveling on vacation with his daughter and her family (he actually found joy planning entire trips) fishing, reading, watching the birds and squirrels in his backyard, gardening with his granddaughter Morgan, watching his granddaughter Caroline compete at her horse shows, listening to his music, lending a helping hand, offering advice to his family, building or repairing things, BBQing, striking up a conversation with anyone at any giving time, and catching the Broncos game on TV.
Ted is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Karol; his children Timothy (Stephanie), Melissa (Eddie) Wood, and Thomas (Connie) as well as grandchildren: Jordan, Chandler, Morgan, Sadie, Caroline, and Graham. The couple also have a great grandson, Grayson. Ted is also survived by his brother, Raymond (Mari) and sister Christine Wozny.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents Jan Szewko, Nicholas J. and Krystyna Wozny.
His infectious smile, charismatic personality, sense of humor, incredible honor, laughter, and love for his family, especially his wife, will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.
