Terrance M. Thompson

April 14, 1947 — November 20, 2024

Terrance (Terry) Michael Thompson, 77, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, following a battle with Alzheimer's Disease. A beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, friend, businessman, and golfer, Terry will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, gentle spirit, quick wit, hilarious impersonations, and karaoke performances.

Terry Thompson was born to Dorothy (Stern) and Lohren Thompson in North Platte, Nebraska. He grew up with his sister, Sheila Johnson (Thompson), and brother, Clark Thompson, and they remained close in distance, business, and beautiful memories.

Terry's Life was a testament to his love for his family. He met the love of his Life, Janice K. Yutesler, in Denver in 1968, and together they built a life centered around family, travel, theater, and a love for sports. He was a devoted father to his son, Travis Thompson, who passed on August 1, 1993, and to his daughter, Melissa Hourigan, whom he raised to embody his values of integrity, hard work, and perseverance. Terry welcomed his son-in-law and golf partner, Tim Hourigan, and his three grandchildren, Michaela, Ashlynn, and Elijah Hourigan, into his heart. Always dressing the part, Terry was there to support his grandkids at their events, concerts, and theatrical performances, his love for them shining through in every moment.

Always active, Terry's talent for sports emerged early. He was a skilled baseball pitcher at Arvada High School and became an exceptional golfer, achieving the rare feat of five holes-in-one throughout his Life. He was always proud to support Colorado sports, whether that be the Broncos, the Rockies, the Nuggets, or the Avalanche—always ready with his fan gear on whether he was attending the games or cheering along with his wife at home.

After graduating from Colorado State University, Terry's love for numbers led him into a fulfilling career and, in retirement, a penchant for investing and a gift that has inspired and benefitted his family and grandchildren.

He began his journey with Husky Oil before dedicating a lifetime to Colorado Petroleum, where he worked closely with his father and brother, Clark, for the majority of his career. Even after retiring at the age of 60, Terry continued to play an active role, even concerned with making sure orders were filled in his final days. His dedication and passion for his work continue to inspire those who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his son, Travis Thompson; his parents, Dorothy Carver (Stern) and Lohren Thompson; his stepfather, Kenneth Carver; nephews, Jacob Thompson and Jerry Yutesler; his brother-in-laws, Chuck Ingram and Gary Yutesler; and his grandparents, Anna and John Thompson and Jeanette and Arthur Stern. Terry also joined several sweet pups -- we are sure they waited patiently with Travis to guide him home.

Terry's wisdom and unwavering support made him a mentor to all. He encouraged those around him to do the right thing, lead a healthy lifestyle, keep to a schedule, and, as he would say, "Some people don't mind being late, not me... I like to be early." His influence will endure through the values he instilled in his family and friends, a testament to the profound impact of his mentorship.

Terry's Celebration of Life will occur on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Broomfield United Methodist Church. A special dessert reception featuring some of Terry's favorites will follow the service.
