Terrence Joseph Brady, 75, of Evergreen, Colorado passed away on November 12, 2022 in Lakewood after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. Known by all as “Terry,” he is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen Brady, his sons, Devin Brady (Tara Brosnan) and Ryan Brady, his brother, Dennis C. (Lynn) Brady from Delaware and sister, Margaret M. (Peg) Brady (David A. Condino) from Massachusetts, his brother-in-law, Don Howard from Iowa, and his nieces and nephews, Matt (Rosalia) Brady, Mike (Traci) Brady, and Kara (Blake) Hamilton, and his six great-nieces and nephews. Terry was proud of his family’s Irish heritage and enjoyed connecting family members with each other and exploring the family’s shared history on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
Terry was born on July 13, 1947 in Queens, NY. He was the son of Lt. Col. Charles S. and Mary C. (Higgins) Brady and grew up in New Hyde Park, NY. Terry graduated from Chaminade High School (Mineola, NY) in 1965, where he played varsity football and ran on the track team.
Terry graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 1969, serving as a captain of the varsity lacrosse team and earning a BS in Engineering. Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force, Terry graduated from pilot training and flew C-130 transport aircraft in combat in Vietnam and Cambodia. His military flying career included 64 combat missions. The Air Force sent Terry and Karen throughout the United States, as well as foreign deployments to Taiwan, the Philippines, and Israel, where he served on the United Nations peacekeeper observation force (UNTSO) during the Israel-Lebanon conflict in the early 1980s. He earned an MBA from the University of Utah and studied at the Army War College in Carlisle, PA. Terry considered his tenure as a C-130 Squadron Commander at Pope AFB as one of the greatest highlights of his Air Force career. He retired at the rank of colonel and as vice wing commander at Little Rock AFB in 1991, having served in the Vietnam War and Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Following his military career, Terry was hired by United Airlines where he worked as a pilot and an instructor at the Denver Training Center for 16 years. He qualified on a wide variety of military and commercial aircraft in his career, including the T-37, T-38, C-130, C-141, 727, 737, 757, 767, 777, 787, A320, and Gulfstream 200. His civilian career highlight was serving as a captain on the Boeing 747 for United. He was active with his chapter of the Air Line Pilots Association (AFL-CIO). Following his retirement from United, he flew for NetJets and continued training pilots as a contractor for Boeing. In his military and civilian career, he accumulated 9,300 accident-free flying hours, 5,000 of them as the pilot in command.
Having lived all over the world, Terry most enjoyed living among the mountains with his family in Evergreen. He was a graceful skier and a frustrated golfer. Terry enjoyed playing competitive tennis. He played lacrosse into his 60s and also worked as a youth lacrosse referee. He was an accomplished runner and bicyclist, completing the Marine Corps Marathon once and biking across Iowa on the RAGBRAI ride twice. He coached his sons in lacrosse, soccer, baseball, and basketball. He also enjoyed fishing, climbing peaks in the Rocky Mountains, whitewater rafting, and camping. He was a season ticket holder for Air Force Academy football and the Colorado Rockies.
Terry will be remembered for his warm and generous spirit, his wisdom and curiosity, his intelligence and humility, his friendly and optimistic nature, his sense of duty, and his devotion to his family.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary, and his sister, Mary Ellen and brother, Brian Brady.
