On April 4th, 2022, Terry Sterling Dixon passed away in his Florida home at 84 years old. He is survived by his wife Marsha, his children Kerrie Pott Malone and Sterling Dixon, and his five grandchildren Kaylee, Cheyenne, Dylan, Charlotte, and Tripp.
Together we celebrate Terry’s long and full life. He was born on September 15, 1937 in Miami, Florida. After moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, he began a career in automotive sales. While in Charlotte he met Catherine (‘Kay’), and together they had three children: Kerrie, Sterling, and Theresa. While working as an automotive salesman at Courtesy Ford, he earned the 1972 title of the #1 Truck Salesman in the United States. Terry alchemized winnings from this success into a modern empire by investing in auto franchises, even forming a dealer’s group to sustain business through the oil crisis of 1975. In 1976, Terry and his family relocated to Denver, Colorado where he continued his automotive sales career. In Denver, his franchise ownership served as the catalyst to the success which he was passionate about passing on to others.
Aside from his extensive automotive career, Terry enjoyed expanding horizons in many experiences through life. He participated in several pro-am golf tournaments alongside professionals like Fred Couples, Jack Nicholas, Corey Pavin, and Tiger Woods. A big fan of the Denver Broncos, he developed lasting friendships with several of the players as he traveled with the team. Not limited to travel by land, Terry moved about his many adventures and travels via his Learjet, fondly known by family and friends as “Dixon Air.” Terry also had a love for the water. He obtained his boating captain’s license as he continued the enjoyment of his ever-expanding collection of boats and yachts. He particularly enjoyed boating through the intracoastal waterway between Canada and Florida with the changing of the seasons. Terry and Marsha enjoyed many years of worldly travels but spent most of their time between the banks of the St. Lawrence River of southeast Canada and the hazy farmlands of central Florida. While in Canada he completely restored and preserved the Darlingside historical home and landmark in the Thousand Islands; built a landmark home known as the Eagle Point Estate; established Eagle Point Ranch raising horses and cattle; and then went on to developing Eagle Point Winery to produce his own vintage. In Florida, Terry expanded the Eagle Point Ranch operations where he raised American quarter horses, world champion paint horses, and black angus cattle. Both his Canadian and Floridian homes were cherished reunion places for Terry’s many friends and family. Returning to Jupiter Island, Florida, Terry spent his last days peacefully by the sea with his wife Marsha and his faithful companions, his loving dogs.
Terry will be remembered not only for his unbridled ambition, but for quiet confidence in his ability to manifest his dreams into reality. He is widely known as a man with few words but many ideas, always letting the work speak for itself. Terry is also deeply cherished for his generosity for others, and especially for his love of animals. He was known to “repossess” his horses bringing them back to Eagle Point Ranch to live out the rest of their days, and for having multiple dogs around him at all times. His closest friends and family will remember him the most from his notoriously tongue in cheek sense of humor. Overall, he will be remembered as a loving spouse, father, grandfather, friend, benefactor, and leader.
