Thelma Hizel was born in Fort Morgan, Colorado in her mother’s sister’s house on December 15, 1933. She was 9th of 10 children to Carl and Katherine Hizel. She is preceded in death by her parents, her 9 brothers and sisters and all of her brothers in law and sisters in law.
Thelma attended school at Horace Mann Jr. High. She was the first in her family to graduate High School and graduated at North High School in June, 1951.
Faith was a big part of her life and she attended first the First German Congregational Church in the Globeville community of Denver as a child and young mother then worshipped and sang in the choir at the Thornton Methodist Church, the Thornton Presbyterian Church and later at other churches where she and her husband Don Blincow lived.
Thelma married Don Blincow whom she met at Western Electric Co. on June 21, 1953 and became Thelma Blincow. The couple raised two sons Bruce and Craig Blincow. Thelma had 6 grandchildren.
Thelma later worked at Bowman Biscuit Company, which became Keebler Company, for 18 years until retirement.
She and Don had an active social live with church groups, choir groups, Senior groups, McDonald’s groups, “Keebler Girls” groups and Friday morning coffee groups. The two traveled all over the country, Canada, Mexico and Europe with relatives, with friends and by themselves.
Thelma was known for her interest in other people and would visit with them to find out who they were, where they were from and who they knew. She actively kept phone and address lists and knew communities of people in Denver, Estes Park, CO, Mesa, AZ and throughout the U.S.
Sons, daughter in laws, grand kids, nieces, nephews, family, in laws, friends, neighbors and care providers were all key to who she was and she talked fondly of all of them. She crocheted blankets and hats for many of them. Thelma was known for her smile.
