Thomas F. Carey

August 30, 1916 — April 20, 2017

Thomas (Tom) Carey, age 100 years 7 months, passed away on the 20th of April 2017. He was born on August 30, 1916 in Ansonia and raised in Derby, Connecticut. Tom is survived by his wife, Frances; his brother, James of CT; and his two daughters, Nancy (Dr. David) Weiss of CO and Patricia Carey (Raymond Schwartz) of AZ. He is survived by five grandchildren, Jason and Justin Millard of AZ, and Travis (Abbey) Winter, Beth (Nathan) Federico and Katie Weiss all from CO; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Ahvah and Lucy in CO; as well as many nieces and nephews. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Carey; his brothers, John, Jeremiah and William; his sister, Ann Ryall Walsh; his daughter, Frances Mary; and his grandson, Michael Weiss. Tom was a resident of Aurora, CO for 26 years. He was married to his beloved wife for 68 years. Tom was a wonderful man, who loved his family and served his God faithfully. He was an active member of St. Mary the Immaculate Conception in CT, a member of Queen of Peace Church in Aurora, CO, and a life time member of the Knights of Columbus #28 in CT. Tom was a proud veteran of the Navy Seabees in WWII. He enjoyed all sports and was a huge fan of both the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos. A visitation will be held at Toohey Funeral Home, 92 Howe Ave., Shelton, CT (203-924-9056) from 8:00am to 9:30 am on Saturday, April 29, 2017, followed by Mass at 10:00 am at St. Mary the Immaculate Conception, 212 Elizabeth St., Derby, CT. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at Toohey Funeral Home in CT and Horan & McConaty Funeral Home in Aurora, CO (303-745-4418) where an online guest registry is available at www.horancares.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Mary the Immaculate Conception, 212 Elizabeth St., Derby, CT 06418 in Tom's honor or to a charity of your choice. A memorial will be held at Brookdale Lowry, time to be announced.
