Thomas E. Coogan

Thomas E Coogan, age 83, died on Monday, December 17, 2018. Beloved husband and best friend of Heather (Rodriquez). Father of Christy, Michael, Dan (Erin), Meg (Travis), and Cat (Mike). Also lovingly remembered by siblings, grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends.

Tom will be dearly missed for not only his incredible sense of humor but his generous nature. His intelligent, dry wit would keep you on your toes and always wanting to share his company a bit longer. His life was centered on his family and his faith. As a devout Catholic, he traveled the world to deepen his connection to God and the Blessed Mother, including trips to Medjugorje, Bosnia. When he wasn't traveling the world, you could find him in the adoration chapel. As a family man, he adored his wife, had lunch weekly with his daughters, and was a highly involved grandfather (aka ""Papa""). When he wasn't spending his time with his friends and family he was always enjoying one of his many passions. Tom read ferociously, loved classical music, enjoyed movies, donated his time, and was a student of chess and the French language among other things.

Among all of Tom's amazing qualities he led an accomplished life as a leader in his community. A third-generation officer on the Denver Police Department, he was appointed Chief of Police in 1983 and served until 1987. His life of service began when Tom served in the Army on the Army Security Agency, where he worked in Germany for two and half years. He was honorably discharged in December of 1957 and joined the Denver Police Department in 1960. He attended Regis University and graduated with a mathematics degree in 1972. After retiring from the Denver Police Department, he became Director of Parole at the Department of Corrections. In retirement he spent his time volunteering for Meals on Wheels and the USO for over 10 years. He was an active member of the Emerald Society and his parish.

In his final weeks, people around the world joined in prayer in his honor. The outcry of love and support was felt in his heart.

He will be dearly missed by all of those that he has directly and indirectly touched.
