Thomas Lewis Ellis

Thomas Lewis Ellis, 68, of Thornton, Colorado passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton. Thomas was born in Hastings, Nebraska on March 6, 1944 to Robert and Mildred Ellis. Thomas worked in the glass fibers reinforced plastics (composites) industry all his life. In his younger years in life, he was involved with projects all over the world. He was part of a team that constructed off shore living quarters on oil rigs out in the oceans of the world. These destinations included the Persian Gulf, the North Sea, Malaysia, and destinations off of Singapore. In 1979, he left that job and began his dream of creating his own fiberglass molding company. He started to work doing small molding jobs in his backyard and as his volume increased he decided he needed a real molding shop and in 1981 incorporated a company called EJ Painting & Fiberglass Inc. which soon became a leader of molding composite structures in Denver and Colorado. Thomas retired in September of 2003 from the company which still exists today. Through hard work and dedication exemplified by Thomas and passed down to his family, EJ has become an industry leader in composites, partnering with other companies to produce products used throughout the world. He is proud of the fact that three generations of his family have worked for that company at some time or another. Thomas was the father of Kirk (Diane) Ellis, Thornton; Misty (Phil) Herzer, Florence, MT; Thomas Michael (Beth), Thornton; Christy Garret, Colorado. He was the grandfather of Matthew, Justin, Abbey Ellis; and Kelsyee (Derek) Magnusen, Shawna Herzer; and Edward, Felicia Ellis and great grandfather to Aiden Ellis. He is also survived by sisters Bonnie Varleta, Livermore, CA; Phidelia (George) Vonesh; and Bob (Lynn) Ellis, Frederick, CO.
