Thomas Wilson Fullerton

Thomas Wilson Fullerton peacefully passed away on Sunday morning, May 6, 2012 at the age of 69 years, in Denver Colorado with his wife and four daughters at his side. Tom was born in Columbus Junction, Iowa, to Corinne and Lavon Fullerton, where he spent his childhood. He attended New London High School where he was Senior class president, homecoming king, and a proud member of the Championship Tigers Football team. He married Diane Strawhacker May 25, 1963. Tom graduated with High Honors from Iowa State University, in Ames, Iowa with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked 35 years for Proctor & Gamble and later for Weyerhaeuser as a Chemical Engineer/manager in their pulp and paper industry. During his career he moved his family to Cincinnati Ohio; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Green Bay, Wisconsin; Grande Prairie, Alberta Canada; and Americus, Georgia, making many great friendships along the way. After retiring Tom moved with Diane back to New London, Iowa and then to Denver Colorado. Tom was known among his family and friends for his strength of character, love of nature, deep interest in learning new things, and especially his love for family. He loved to hunt and fish, was an accomplished skier and ski instructor, and an all around avid outdoorsman. As a devoted father he spent many pleasurable hours watching and coaching his girls in their many activities. Wherever he lived he was a familiar sight walking his beloved dogs. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon and Elder. Tom is survived by his wife Diane, his four daughters, Laura (David) Lopez, Christine (Jim) Walsh, Erin (Cameron) Cowpar, Alison Jane Fullerton, two granddaughters, Gracie Lopez and Wren Cowpar, one sister, Julia Kelly Johnson, one brother, E. Richard Fullerton and many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held in New London, Iowa, on June 23, 2012, at Elliott Chapel. A memorial fund has been established for New London High School and a second one for research at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease Center, Chicago, Illinois.
