Thomas Meaney, Sr.

Thomas James Meaney, age 87, passed away at home in Aurora, CO on July 6th, 2022.  Born and raised in Somerville, Massachusetts, the fifth of six children by the late John and Catherine (nee McNamara) Meaney. He attended Somerville High School before enlisting in the US Army in 1952. He served in multiple locations including Fitzsimons Army Hospital (Aurora, CO) and Sandia Base (Albuquerque, NM). He was also deployed overseas which included Germany, Italy and Vietnam. While at Fitzsimons (now the UC Denver Anschutz medical campus) he met and eventually married his first wife, the late Diana Livingston. They had four children together: Catherine R Boydstun, Susan E Meaney, the late Thomas J Meaney Jr, and Donna L Davis.

After a decorated military career Tom was honorably discharged from the Army in 1972. He then moved the family back to Aurora, CO, and soon found himself working for the Department of Defense civil service, also at Fitzsimons. In 1985 he met his present wife Barbara A Meaney.  He retired in 2001 after a long and distinguished career. Thomas was a military and history enthusiast, collector of military memorabilia, and was particularly fond of the American Bald Eagle. He and his loving wife Barbara spent many of the last 30 years travelling the world together.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughters Catherine, Susan and Donna, his elder brother David J Meaney, grandchildren Thomas J Meaney III, Ward T Boydstun, Christopher R Meaney, great-grandchild Ward T Boydstun Jr, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation and “Life of Tom” service will be held on Tuesday, July 26th starting at 10:00 AM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, to be followed by a Military Honors service at Ft Logan National Cemetery at 2:15 PM.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW).
