Thomas J. Murphy passed away in Aurora, CO, on September 20, 2003, at the age of 89. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 6, 1914, to Joseph A. and Mary E. (Diegnan) Murphy. He was married to Mary Acree on September 19, 1938 in Spokane, WA and they had just celebrated their 65th anniversary. Tom grew up in New York with a large Irish extended family. Following high school, he ventured west, graduating from the University of Oklahoma. Tom retired from the U.S. Army, which included being at Pearl Harbor with his wife, Mary, at the start of WWII. After the War, he received his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and moved to Denver, where he was involved in financial investments for many decades. He is survived by his wife, Mary and five loving families: Mary Ann and Rich Hillman of Cheyenne, WY; Tom and Mary Ann Murphy of Englewood; Carolyn and Tom Blecha of Aurora, OR; Bob and Donna Murphy of Centennial; and Peg and Gary Broughton of Delta, CO.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his older sister, Ellen McManus of New York, and numerous nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
