THOMAS E. NEWTON, 12/16/49 - 12/10/18

Thomas Edward Newton, 68, of Castle Rock, CO passed away the morning of December 10, 2018. Tom was born on December 16, 1949 in Denver, CO to Charles and Eleanore Newton. He was the oldest of 6 children including Lucy, Chip, John, Mary and Jennifer.

Tom grew up in the area in Denver now known as Crestmoor in a house that his father Chuck built by hand, which he admired greatly. He loved shooting hoops in the driveway at their family home, a pastime that he would also enjoy with his children. He also spent a lot of time with his grandparents in his younger years, and enjoyed his grandmother's home-cooked meals - something he would later perfect, himself. He loved attending Denver Bears baseball games with his grandparents where he got to see some of the greats starting their careers. Tom absolutely loved sports throughout the duration of his life and would later share this passion with his kids.

He attended Christ the King Catholic Grade School where he played basketball, football and baseball. Basketball was his favorite. From an early age, Tom loved learning in school. His favorite subjects were Math and English, both of which he was good at. He loved Spelling and Math competitions, and became quite a great Math tutor to some of his siblings and his children later in life.

Tom went to Regis Jesuit High School. He played on the golf and basketball teams while attending school there. His basketball team is still known to be one of the better teams in Regis history. He was known by his teammates as ""Birdie."" Tom graduated from Regis High School in 1968. He then went on to the University of Colorado in Boulder from 1968-1969, where he was an Evans Scholar. Tom finished his Bachelor's of Science in Biology at Regis University, graduating in 1973.

After graduating college, Tom began working for his dad in the wholesale sporting goods business for several years. After working for his dad, he began a 35-year sales career selling office products with Corporate Express (which later became Staples), where he would meet his loving wife of 32 years, Kathy. He had a successful career that he enjoyed very much, making many lifelong friends in the process.

Tom and Kathy had two children, Jessica and Charlie. As a family, they would enjoy many sporting events and vacations together. As a CU football season ticket holder (Go Buffs), they loved attending football games for many years. Tom loved to travel with his wife and children, especially to anywhere with a beach. He was very active in his children's educations. Tom believed it was extremely important that his kids go to Catholic School so that they may be strong in their Catholic faith. He pushed them to always do their best. The kids' sporting activities were also significant to Tom - Jessica's figure skating and Charlie's baseball. He loved helping coach his son Charlie's baseball teams, as well as attending Charlie's games throughout elementary, high school and college. Tom was also very passionate about the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies and golf (both playing and watching).

Tom deeply loved and cared for his family. He especially enjoyed his two granddaughters, Ella and, most recently, Eden. He was a wonderful grandfather who took great pride in that role.

His strength over the years inspired many people. Tom had an incredible will to live. He will be missed dearly by all of his family and friends.

Survived by his wife Kathy; two children, Jessica Cornwell (Jonathan) and Charlie Newton (Emily); two granddaughters, Ella and Eden Cornwell; siblings Chip (Heidi), John (Jody), Jennifer, Lucy Kinard and Mary (Craig) Peterson; stepmother Joan Newton. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Charles and Eleanore Newton, and his aunt Sidney Moorhead.
