Thomas Daniel Smith

Thomas Daniel Smith, age 56, passed away on May 8, 2009, in Aurora, Colorado, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 7, 1952, in Richland, Washington, to Daniel Roberts and Donna Laffrenzen Smith. He married Sheila Williams in August of 1979. They became the parents of three sons. Tom attended Brigham Young University, graduating in 1981. He worked for a variety of Auto auctions, having lived in Provo, Utah, California, and then making Colorado their home in 1991. Until poor health prevailed, Tom had worked as a controller for the Denver Auto Auction since their move to Colorado in 1991. Tom was a huge sports fan, both playing and as a spectator. He was a big fan of the San Francisco 49'ers, the Denver Nuggets, and the BYU basketball & football teams. He enjoyed golfing, playing basketball and he loved his time in the ocean surfing. Tom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man, he served a mission in Alaska and has served in many church callings over the years. Tom is survived by his wife, Sheila and sons, Russell, Jeffrey and Dean, all of Aurora; his mother, Donna Smith, of Sun City, Arizona; and a sister, Lynette (husband, Alan) Harrison, of Cambia, California. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Smith and his brother, Steve Smith. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009, from 9:00-9:45 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service that will begin at 10:00 a.m. The visitation and the service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3101 South Flanders Street, Aurora, CO.
