Thomas “Tom” Hurley, 64, of Franklin, TN, passed away February 27, 2024, after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was born on October 13,1959 in Queens, NY, to Jim and Janet Hurley. He grew up in Clifton Park, NY, with his four siblings, vacationed at his beloved Goose Rocks Beach, and played football at Shenendehowa High School. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point (class of 1982), and upon graduation, was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Tom proudly served his country in several postings, achieving the rank of Captain and earning a master’s degree from Chapman University before transitioning to civilian life in Denver, CO.
Denver was the place of many of Tom’s fondest memories and experiences, most importantly meeting the love of his life, Jeri Hurley (Plaul), who remained his rock throughout their 33 year marriage. Together, they raised their daughter Melissa, her father’s joy, and their son Kyle, Tom’s hero. Tom was an avid and skilled skier who shared his passion with family and friends and many children as a ski instructor. After relocating to Tennessee later in life, Tom found the art of cooking through the wonder of air frying and delighted in trying to beat his brothers in any challenge he could. He also adopted his beloved in-the-house canine buddy, Puffer, who led him on world class walks and adventures.
Tom had a long and successful career eventually becoming the Senior Vice President of Market Research and Strategic Development at Jackson Financial Services. He also devoted himself to giving back through numerous causes including as a member of the Board of Directors for Red Rocks Credit Union and as Board Chair of the Alzheimer’s Association Colorado Chapter.
Tom’s endless good and goofy humor, kindness, handsome smile, and patient nature will be forever remembered by all who knew him. He was that guy who made friends everywhere he went. His Shen friends, his West Point friends, his Denver friends, his Tennessee friends, and more, will miss him deeply. His family honors him and will forever cherish his memory.
Tom’s life will be celebrated and remembered with a memorial service on Friday, March 22 at 2 p.m. Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Road, Centennial, CO. A reception will follow from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations or contributions be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
