My husband, Thomas Washington, was born November 10, 1950 and passed away December 6, 2024. He traveled with his imagination as a young person by spending hours on end in the library. He always had a thirst for learning and educating himself. He also loved to play basketball hours on end. He lived in the projects when he was young. He was proud to serve in the Air Force. It taught him about other cultures and educated him that poverty runs through all cultures.
This Government journey helped him attain his goals of supporting himself, getting a college education and never going back to the projects. When he worked for Housing and Development and did housing inspections he tried to talk with the people who lived there to let them know he once lived in Government housing and that it is possible to be successful on their own.
Traveling to Thailand, Bali, Singapore, Laos and Cambodia were some of his favorite places. Now he'll be making one last trip to the destination of peace.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Serino-Washington, his brother Leon Washington, his daughter Joy Carter, and grandchildren Ebony Carter, Gary Carter and Colby Carter.
A Celebration of Thomas's life will be held Monday, December 23, 2024, 11am, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood. Committal will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area B, 2:30pm.
