Timothy Frank Crisman

September 3, 1951 — August 19, 2011

Timothy Frank Crisman, 59, of Lakewood, died August 19, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Herbert and Margaret (Norton) Crisman in Harvey, Illinois, on September 3, 1951. Tim graduated from Thornton Township High School (Harvey, Illinois) in 1969 and continued his education at Shimer College in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. In the early 70's, Tim moved to Denver, working at a foundry and then Continental Airlines before owning and operating City Center Printing (Aurora) and Star Deli, Too (Castle Rock). He joined the Colorado Division of Wildlife in 1994 as the statewide volunteer coordinator. After several years, he was asked to turn his talents to education information and was instrumental in developing DOW's outreach for students and teachers. He also assumed responsibility for maintaining the Education Section resources on the DOW web page. After being diagnosed with inoperable primary liver cancer in March of 2011, Tim retired on a medical disability at the end of May. Tim loved flower and vegetable gardening, carpentry and wood-working, the Colorado Rockies and the hapless Chicago Cubs, and feeding and watching birds. He learned about and advocated for Colorado's wildlife and other natural resources, while also enjoying four-wheeling and being outdoors. Tim loved large-breed dogs and was owned by one St. Bernard and many Newfoundlands. He was a devoted and loving husband, brother, son-in-law, friend, and colleague, respected for his professionalism, knowledge, candor, and humor. Tim Crisman is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jane (Klawitter) Crisman, sister Peggy (Roger) Peterson of Michigan, brother David (Louise) Crisman of Wisconsin, nephews Brad Peterson of New York and Scott (Sarah Siplak) Peterson of Pennsylvania, great-nephew Wyatt Siplak Peterson, and his father- and mother-in-law, Virgil and Lois Klawitter of Lakewood. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. In lieu of flowers, Tim requested that memorials be made in his name to the youth program Environmental Learning for Kids, where a scholarship will be established in his name.
