Timothy John Dunn was born December 12, 1944 in Phoenix, AZ, to Mr. Charles D. Dunn (Benyuk) and Dorothy Dunn (Dodo), the only ‘single’ in the bunch. His two older brothers, James D. and Charles W. were twins, and younger sisters Mary Denise, Dorothy D. and brother Richard D. were triplets. Tim grew up in Phoenix and graduated from Washington High School in 1962. He enlisted in the Army after high school and was an accounting clerk stationed in Heidelberg, Germany.
After leaving the Army and moving to Denver, Tim worked for A.E. Heinsohn Printing Machinery Co and then later went on to open United Printing Equipment, Inc. with his business partner, Ted Neis, in 1977. After a long and successful run, they sold the company in 2006.
After moving to Denver, Tim met Sally Jo Johnson, whom he married February 23rd of 1969. They then welcomed three daughters- Jessica, Audrey and Elaina. Damn, no sons!! They lived in Jefferson County, Colorado, where they raised their daughters.
In the early years, Tim and Sally enjoyed 4-wheeling with his brothers and sisters on the beach in Mexico and other places. Later on, he enjoyed going to Glenwood Springs and camping with the family and extended family. Trips to Phoenix to see his mom, brothers, and sisters always made him happy. Trips with George Sluyter hunting in Colorado and fishing in Alaska were favorites of his. Dad was never one to sit still, or shut up!!
In 2006, Sally passed after a battle with cancer. After a while, Tim decided that Susan Moore, whom he had known for years, might just be the right one. Tim and Sue married on April 30, 2013. Sue was the right match for Tim, the best travel companion he could have hoped for. They were always flying somewhere and getting on a boat! Like he said, “I love that little girl!” apparently, meant to be! Tim and Sue went everywhere they could.
Tim passed away on March 23, 2024 after a brave ten- month bout with lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Sally Dunn, his sisters Denise Beagle and Diane Hull (both part of the triplets), as well as Diane’s late husband, Chuck Hull, and Bud’s late wife, Carole.
Tim is survived by his wife of 10 (almost 11!) years, Susan Dunn, his daughters Jessica (Todd) Lighthall, Audrey Dunn, and Elaina (Jared) Aylor, his grandchildren, Alex Lighthall, Mitch Lighthall and Jolynn Lighthall, his twin older brothers, Bill (Karen) Dunn and Bud Dunn, as well as Dennis (Kathy) Dunn, the last of the triplets, many nieces and nephews.
Service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 1pm, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO. A reception will immediately follow at Lloyd G. Clements Community Center, 1580 Yarrow St., Lakewood, CO.
