Timothy Patton Watson passed away on October 20, 2023 at Anschutz Medical Center after a valiant battle with leukemia and subsequent stem cell transplant in August.
Tim was born in Aurora Illinois on December 1, 1950 to Robert Seaton Watson and Helen Louise York Watson. He attended high school in Aurora and was an active member of the Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle Scout award. After graduating, he attended the University of Colorado graduating with a Business Degree in 1973 and participated in Navy ROTC.
Following graduation, he served six years in the Navy, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He returned to Colorado and attended graduate school at The University Denver, where he received a Master's Degree in both Business Administration and Taxation. He joined Deloitte, Haskins and Sells Firm in Denver in 1981, and became a Certified Public Accountant
Tim moved with his family to Boulder in 1983 and opened his own accounting firm in 1987. His original accounting practice existed for more than 30 years, including as partnerships in Hulet, Watson and Associates and later, as Watson and Stoll LLC. Watson & Stoll was acquired by ACM in July of 2018 and later sold to BDO in 2020. Tim retired in April of 2022.
Tim was active in the Boulder Community serving as President of the Rotary Club and Boulder County Homeless Shelter Board. He was also Executive Director of the Edmund T and Eleanor Quick Foundation.
Tim was actively involved in his children's lives, finding time to coach his daughter's (Beth) soccer and softball teams as coach and as Den Leader of his son's (Chris) Cub Scout Troop. Tim loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing tennis, skiing, hiking and biking. He also was an extraordinary Grandfather (Opa) to his four grandchildren.
He married his favorite bridge partner, Jeanne Achziger, in 2021. They loved Colorado History Treks, hiking parts of the Colorado Trail, travelling abroad and taking road trips in the United States. On their E-bikes, cycling became a fun adventure without any dread of big hills ahead. Play and concert dates were always on their calendar, as were dog walks with Gracie and Frankie.
Tim is survived by his wife, Jeanne, his daughter Elizabeth (Mike) Duggan of Decatur, GA, son Christopher Watson of Denver, and four grandchildren, Lili and Foster Duggan and Seton and Axl Watso. He is also survived by his sister, Janet (Andy) Hoyne of St. Louis, MO, and his brother Robert (Bobbi) Watson of Eau Claire, WI, as well his nieces, nephews and many cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be held on November 11, 2023 at 10 am at Holy Ghost Church (1900 California St, Denver).
Donations may be made in Tim’s memory to the Small Choices Foundation, https://www.smallchoicesfoundation.org/, an organization dedicated to improving the cancer journey for adult patients and their caregivers.
