Tom R. Simms

Tom R. Simms age 88, of Denver, Colorado died January 16, 2019 after suffering a heart attack. Born April 28, 1930, he was the son of James and Gertrude Simms. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Josephine; along with five children; Mark, Barbara, Mary, JoAnn and John. He his oldest son, Robert is deceased. Additionally, Tom had nine grandchildren, Barbara's three sons, Byron, Gregg, and Nick; Mary's three children, Tommy, Michael and Christina and John's three daughters, Jessie, Jilliann and Jacqui. Tommy, the oldest grandchild, also blessed Tom with three great grandchildren: Eliana, Lola and Nikos.

Summing up Tom's life, He faithfully lived his values: family, church and work.

Tom was self-made and self-reliant. His life started tough growing up during the depression in a Catholic family with eleven children. He was drafted into the army during the Korean War. After his service, he worked as a baker and eventually went to work at the Denver Mint. As we always told everybody, ""dad made money for a living.""

He met and married his wife, Josephine in 1954. He started a family and family business owning and running apartment houses. This allowed Tom to retire early and attend all his grandchildren's sporting events. He also loved volunteering at the church and attending daily mass. Tom loved to playing cards especially pinnacle. He had a sweet tooth and loved his desserts. He enjoyed going to the car races and watching his favorite Colorado sports team. Go Broncos! Tom was very social and if you had an ear to listen he had a story to tell.

Tom enjoyed relatively good health until the end. He suffered Alzheimer's for nearly a decade. His final moments were sad. As he took his last breaths, there was a sense of peace over the entire room. He will be missed by his family and heaven is gaining an amazing angel.

The services for Tom Simms will be held at Saint Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church (2309 Gaylord St, Denver, Colorado 80205) on January 22, 2019. A Rosary will be said at 1:30 PM, Funeral mass at 2:00 PM with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s honor to Laradon Hall (5100 Lincoln St, Denver, CO 80216).
