Tomie Bailey, 92, of Northglenn, CO, passed away March 27, 2021 at her home. Tomie was born on March 30, 1928 in Hakone Imperial Villa Hakone-machi, Ashigara-gun Japan, to Teiji and Shige Hashimoto. The second of 5 children, she attended elementary, middle, and high school in Tokyo, Japan. After high school, Tomie enrolled in a singing and dance school for Shochiku, a movie and entertainment company in Tokyo, where she learned different styles of dance.
In the early 1950’s, a friend introduced Tomie to William Bailey, who was in Japan serving in the military with the Marine Corp. After dating for some time, Tomie and Bill were married on October 12, 1955 in Tokyo, and then left for the US to begin their new life in Colorado.
Tomie had various jobs that included working for a carnation grower, inspecting and grading carnations, and in the high tech industry for Ball Aerospace, where she received an award for her work on electronics for the Hubble telescope fix, as well as her work for the defense department on equipment and communication satellites. Tomie was always up for a camping trip and enjoyed being in the mountains.
After retiring from Ball Aerospace, she and Bill traveled to Alaska, Japan, UK, Ireland, Mexico, many national parks and sights in the US, and a Disney Cruise with their grandchildren.
Tomie is survived by her husband, Bill, of Northglenn, son Steven (Sharon) of Mead, CO, grandchildren Austin Bailey and Kaylin Bailey, sisters Hisae and Saeko, and brother Tsunenki. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Teiji and Shige, brother, Takashi, and her son, William Jr.
Funeral services will be held at Northglenn Christian church on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 12:30 p.m.
Burial will be at Olinger Cemetery-Highland in Thornton, CO.
