Travis Alan Jenks

June 16, 1986 — August 11, 2012

Travis Jenks was born on June 16, 1986 at Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. He attended Sand Creek Elementary School, Cresthill Middle School and Highlands Ranch High School, all in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Travis then attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, and subsequently Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado. His ultimate goal was to obtain his graduate degree in psychology and to open his own practice. Travis wanted to help others who had been faced with all the issues of having Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and all of the challenges of growing up in today's society. He was fascinated with anything relative to science and history. Travis truly enjoyed snowboarding, hiking and walking and was so looking forward to this winter at Beaver Creek and Vail. He was so very talented in his artistic drawings and also enjoyed creating his own music. Travis died unexpectedly on August 11, 2012. He is survived by his mother, Nora, and his brother, Keegan. His father, Alan, also died unexpectedly on June 1, 2012. He will be missed more that words can ever express. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, August 19th at 2:00 pm, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road (one block west of South Holly Street) in Centennial. Please share your memories of Travis and condolences with his family by signing the guestbook. The following memories of Travis were written by: Ron Allen (close family friend), Lee Bicknell (close family friend), Pat O'Connor (Grandma) and Nora Jenks (Mother) Travis was a true joy to be around, a handsome young man, very personable. He always looked 'sharp', loved clothes; and consequently he 'made' the clothes, they didn't make him. He was a sweet and loving young man, with a great, ready smile for everyone. He was an enthusiastic talker, sometimes leading to the exhaustion of his listeners. He always had opinions, and his creativity was unbeatable. He could always 'improve' on any task he was given. Generosity was his middle name, both with his resources and his parents' resources, helping others without even thinking about it. He was really intelligent and a whiz at hooking up stereo equipment and computers. In fact, he was greatly missed on Thursday when a computer presented a problem. He sincerely thanked everyone who took him to the many doctor appointments and hospitals for his problems. He appreciated all the help he got with everything. Travis was very much alone, even though down deep he know he had close friends; but his past behavioral mistakes alienated them, one too many times. He was his own worst enemy. He could sometimes be a liability to others as well as himself, and close friends drifted away as he wasn't able to change his life. His plan was to be a psychologist, hoping to help others with his own personal knowledge of the problems encountered in growing up. But that was not to be...he was so intelligent and knowledgeable about substance abuse, but temporarily lost his way, forgetting that they can end your life too soon. He would go through phases that would indicate he had turned away from substance abuse, and we had high hopes he had turned the corner; but it, too, was not to be. He would revert to his bad habits. Travis and so many of his peers believe they are invincible, but in the real world, it's been proven untrue. So many of Travis' friends have died from substance abuse. The consequences on parents and friends are devastating and final, so, please, no more funerals.
