True Somer Anderson

True Somer “Sugar” Anderson of Littleton, Colorado passed away at the extraordinary age of 93, on December 27, 2024. True’s leaving was nearly perfectly timed with the onset of physical limitations that prevented her from enjoying her favorite pastime: milling about and ignoring anyone who asked her to please sit down and rest. 

Born August 24, 1931, in Wilson, Kansas, she is preceded in death by her husband Kent Anderson, son Douglas Anderson, and parents Patricia and Luther McKenry. She is survived by her daughter Perri Koke, son Scot Anderson, granddaughter Laura Steinhauser (Grant), and three great grandchildren Jay, Ben, and Maxwell.

True grew up in Denver, and after graduating from East High School, went to the University of Denver, where she met her husband and also joined the Delta Gamma Sorority in the bonds of sisterhood, where she remained an active member for life. She made her career as an elementary school English teacher for Denver Public Schools until her retirement.

True was a lifelong learner and traveler and found these two interests made for a perfect partnership, as she visited museums and architectural monuments all over the world. She couldn't wait to tell her family she had gone to Jim Morrison's grave in Paris. After decades of exploring, she declared her favorite place to be Paris, where you might find her for a few weeks at a time, well into her 80’s as a solo traveler.

While True lived independently at her home until she was 92, she spent her final months in assisted living - a trip she proclaimed was not among her favorites when she matter-of-factly stated that she "wouldn’t book this tour again".

A celebration of True’s life will be held at Abiding Hope Church (6337 S Robb Way) on Friday January 10th at 11:00a.m.
