Hubert Henry ""Van"" Vander Plaats, 83, of Centennial, Colorado, died June 15, 2010 in Greenwood Village, Colorado, following a lengthy fight with Parkinson's disease. He was born February 6, 1927 to Martha (Nelson) and Andrew Vander Plaats. Van graduated from Michigan State University. He was an Electrical Engineer with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for 38 years. Prior to his illness he enjoyed gardening, golfing, camping and square dancing. He leaves his wife of 19 years, Martha Vander Plaats; his daughters, Jill (husband Bill) Housh; and Lori (husband John) Skoglund; Martha's children, Wendy (husband Timothy) Adamson; Bradley (wife Jenny) Kilburn; Martha's daughter-in-law, Joy Lewis; grandchildren, Alyssa & Aimee Housh, John & Renee Skoglund, Joshua, Luke, Gabriel & Samara Gonzales, Ryan, Amanda, Matthew & Kaitlynn Kilburn, Preston (wife Emily) Kilburn; great-grandchildren, Josiah and Micah Kilburn; sister, Phyllis (husband Kenneth) Smith of Milwaukee, WI; sister, Marcene (husband Ed) Rummler of Pittsford, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Violet Marjorie Paulsen Vander Plaats, brother, Norman Vander Plaats; step-son, David Kilburn; grandson, Christopher Gonzales; and infant great-granddaughters, Annie & June, Grace, and Adelaide Kilburn. Viewings will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010, 6:00-7:00pm, and on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, from 10:00am-10:45am, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00am, all at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1939 E. Easter Ave., Centennial, CO. Burial will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Blvd, Denver, CO. at 1:00pm, Pavillion ""A"".
