Verla Lou Swanson

July 30, 1930 — November 29, 2007

Verla Lou (Brink) Swanson (77) was born on July 30, 1930 in Frankfort, South Dakota and raised in Redfield, South Dakota. She passed away in Aurora, Colorado on November 29, 2007. At an early age she developed her talent in voice, piano, trombone and dance to include tap and ballroom dancing. She loved to dance throughout her life. She graduated from Redfield High School in 1948 and received a Certificate of Completion from the Northwest College of Commerce in Huron, South Dakota in 1954. She moved to Denver in 1966 and loved living there. Verla took pride in her appearance and home and was an excellent cook and meticulous housekeeper. She loved talking with people, dealing with the public, and had several jobs working in retail to include working as an Avon Representative for over 35 years. She had a deep appreciation for the arts and nature. She will be remembered the most for her strength as an individual, independence and intelligence, her fun-loving and sometimes flamboyant personality, her smile, laugh, and sense of style and class. Once when asked how she would like to be remembered, she laughed and said, ""As a mover and a shaker."" She then quietly stated that most of all she wanted to be remembered as a Christian. She always believed she had an ""angel in the corner"" looking over her. It was her fervent hope and desire that her family and friends would forgive her for anything she may have said or done to hurt or wrong them. She loved and was loved by them and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter, Delana D. Anderson (Gary) of Lemoore, California; her three grandchildren, Kevin L. Traynor (Rachael) of Killeen, Texas; Katie J. Maloy (Shaun) of Lemoore, California and Krista R. Martin (Nathan, Sr.) of Fort Lewis, Washington and eight great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Horan and McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave. at S. Parker Rd., Aurora, CO. A Private Committal will take place at a later date in South Dakota. Flowers may be sent to the service or donations may be made to Denver Hospice. Expressions of sentiments are welcome at www.HoranCares.com.
