Verla E. York
Age 86, a resident of Lakewood, CO and Sun City West, AZ, passed away on 9/28/18,
Verla was born in Fort Collins, CO on 1/29/32 to Earl and Elna Hodges. The oldest of 6 children, Verla was a second Mom to her younger brothers. She was a cheerleader and Head Girl at Fort Lupton High School. Verla met her husband, John, in 1952 and they were married 5/27/53, while John was serving in the Navy on the U.S. S. Oriskany during the Korean Conflict.
Verla and John were involved and loving parents to Brenda, Sharon, Brad and Sandy. Verla actively encouraged her children in scouts, music lessons, church activities and sporting events. The family took annual trailer camping trips for 2 weeks every summer. After grandchildren arrived, weekend ski trips and camping weekends continued on a larger scale.
Verla loved people and serving them. She regularly hosted wonderful dinners at their home.
Verla was a real estate broker and property manager. She was an active member of Southern Gables Evangelical Free Church, Christian Women's Club and attended Palmwest Community Church, AZ. Verla and her husband of 65 years, John W York, founded The Denver Seed Group whose mission is to translate the Bible, God's Word, into every language.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon York, sister Gwen Glover, Brothers Jay Hodges, Ken Hodges, and her parents, Earl and Elna Hodges.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John York, daughter Brenda McCoy (Pat), son Brad York (Lynne), daughter Sandy Olearnick (Pat), sister Earline Schreiner, brother Jim Hodges. Eight grandchildren: Amanda Sharp (Ray), Derek Smedes (Jessica), Richard Smedes (Meghan), John York (Kristin) Jennifer Manns (Tyler), Brandon Meyer (Stefanie), Kelsey Diaz (Chris) and Kristie York; 13 great-grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private Family Interment: Chapel Hill
