Verlin Warner

Verlin ""Cork"" Warner, 83, of Georgetown, Texas went into the arms of Jesus, after a lengthy illness on Monday, November 14, 2011. He was blessed to have had his loving family with him, at home, on the weekend. Cork was born in Lisle, Illinois on July 20, 1928 to Anthony T. and Esther E. Warner. The family moved to Colorado when he was six years old. He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1948. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving his country in Alaska and Japan while in the U.S. Air Force. Cork married Betty Anne Carlson in Denver, Colorado on November 11, 1950. After his discharge from the military in 1952 they moved to Rangely, Colorado where he began his career in the oil industry. The family moved back to the Denver area in 1956 where he retired from the Total Refining Company in 1991. They moved to Texas in 1997 to be closer to their family. He was preceded in death by his son John Alan Warner; his sister Nancy Claire Carter; and his parents. Many enjoyable summers were spent with family fishing and traveling the back roads of western Colorado. He enjoyed family gatherings and having early morning coffee with his friends at the local coffee shops. He was a graduate of the Colorado Institute of Art and his avocation in life was painting and relief wood carving. He was a very talented artist who loved the western landscapes. Cork is survived by his wife, Betty Anne and son, Michael Ross Warner and wife Beth of Fort Worth, Texas. He is also survived by four grandchildren Jonathan Curtis Warner and wife Allison, Julie Anne Warner, Jenna Lynn Warner and Alexandra Julia Warner; His brothers Ronald R. Warner and wife Liz; Michael D. Warner and wife Judy; 7 nieces; 1 nephew; and 19 great-nieces and nephews. Burial and graveside services will take place in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. There will be a Memorial Service at Crestview Baptist Church on Saturday, November 19 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Mountain State Children's Home, 14780 North 107th Street, Longmont, CO 80504-9782.
